LONDON TONIGHT TONIGHT: Weds Aug 23rd

Afternoon,

Tamzin and Ben are on the sofa today (Tamzin will be the one on the left)...

And our main story this evening is the scathing report listing shortfalls at Northwick Park hospital, shortfalls which led to 10 women dying while they were pregnant or shortly after they gave birth. System failure, weak leadership and poor quality of care are blamed by the Healthcare Commission. In Liz Wickham's report, we'll be hearing from the partner of one of the women who died.

Meanwhile, Ronke Phillips is covering the desperate story of a young father shot dead when he confronted a gang outside his home in Canning Town. The main suspect being interviewed by the police is only 14 years old.

Now, a video - made by an Iraqi mincab driver - shows a number of London landmarks. His defence has told the jury at Woolwich Crown Court that it was a jokey look at what the capital has to offer for relatives back home. The prosecution, meanwhile, alleges it was a guide highlighting potential targets for terrorists. Piers Hopkirk will have the details on that.

On a lighter note, we'll have be 'pitch-side' ahead of Arsenal's second leg of their European Champions qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb. The Gunners are 3-0 up so far - Robbie Earle will tell us whether he thinks that's enough. (By the way - the game's on ITV4 tonight)

Alright, a question for you now... a man who's just signed a rather large record contract with Universal believes "the ??? to be something of romance".
Is he talking about -
a) the Thames on a warm summer's evening
b) that nightingale singing over Berkeley Square
c) the tube?
Phil Bayles will be asking Chris Singleton what, and indeed, why.

Something else for music-lovers too - a chance to vote someone to glory in this year's MOBO Awards. 'London Tonight' is sponsoring the 'Best Newcomer Award'. We want you to choose between five contenders and we'll be telling you how to cast your vote.

And what's more, Tamzin (she's been terribly busy) has been chatting to Penny Lancaster (Rod Stewart's fianc, you know) about a new calendar she's got coming out for next year. Only, Penny's not in front of the camera. She's the one taking the snaps... of celebrities and their pets. Well, someone's got to.

So, busy afternoon ahead. We'd better get on. See you at Six.
